Published SIF Data Model Implementation Specification (North America) 4.3 – also known as Unity Specification

Consolidated membership into one Community offering (combining individual A4L Community and Student Data privacy Consortium (SDPC) memberships), with access to all data management & data privacy activities within the Community.

Three A4L.org websites launched (A4L.org / data.A4L.org / privacy.A4L.org) highlighting the Community moving forward in ‘Connecting and Securing Effective Learning EcosystemsTM

The Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC) publish the National Research Data Privacy Agreement (NRDPA)

The A4L Community joins the Data Standards United (DSU) collaborative.

The Community expanded from a focus on the identification, management and movement of educational data… to include usage of data and learning information.  Introducing the Access 4 Learning (A4L) Community.

2007

SIF Association launch the SIF Certification Program to provide quality assurance of interoperability to the marketplace using the SIF Specifications.

2006

Inaugural meetings of the SIF Association UK Community.

2003

Started moving towards independent 501(c)3 non-profit association status.

Version 1.1 of the SIF Specification was approved.

1999

Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) was launched in a speech by Bill Gates at the American Association of School Administrators.

1998

A series of meetings began in July 1998 between Microsoft Corporation in partnership with 18 other companies on the topic of interoperability between education applications.  The conclusion of these meetings identified that the best solution was for interested parties to collectively define standards that all software vendors could adopt.
