Interoperability is a big word that just got some even bigger press

Today – Monday, August 7th, 2023 – The US Department of Education Office of Education Technology released three briefs that cover the role of interoperability, cybersecurity, and privacy.  These briefs are part of a national effort to create more secure and resilient digital ecosystems.

In our partnership with Project Unicorn, we want to take this opportunity to pass these resources on to you. Read the Infrastructure Briefs and check out Project Unicorn’s free resources to help you begin your interoperability journey.

In addition, today (August 7, 2023), at 4:00 – 5:30 PM EDT, The White House will livestream an event, Back to School, Safely: A Cybersecurity Summit for K-12 Schools, and we are thrilled that Steve Smith (CIO, Cambridge Public Schools, and A4L Interim Leadership) will be attending the event on behalf of the Access 4 Learning (A4L) Community and Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC).

The event will discuss ways districts, states, edtech solutions providers, and federal agencies can work together to strengthen K-12 education’s cybersecurity infrastructure amongst the growing number of cyberattacks that have targeted schools. There will be an emphasis on how interoperability plays a significant role in secure technology infrastructure and ecosystems. Government agencies and the private industry will announce their commitments to this cause. The Office of Educational Technology, one including CISA, will be introducing the newly released K-12 Digital Infrastructure Briefs.

If you can make some time in your day, tune in here for a live stream of this event, which will show how we can build lasting and resilient data ecosystems as you are inspired by bright spots throughout the country.
